BSPRM Paediatric Disability and Lifelong Care SIG Meeting

The BSPRM Paediatric Disability and Lifelong Care Special Interest Group (PDLC SIG) will meet online on Wednesday 1 July, chaired by Dr Simon Shaw.

We are very pleased to welcome Dr Phoebe Owen, Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and UHDB Trust Transition Lead (Adults) at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, based at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital. Dr Owen will give a presentation offering insight into her work and perspectives, with time for questions and group discussion.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity to build on the recent collaborative work undertaken by the SIG, including the group’s submission to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and Social Care on transition. This highlighted the breadth of expertise within the group and the value of working together on shared priorities.

Following Dr Owen’s presentation, the meeting will be used as a springboard for future collaborative activity. Discussion will include:

• Potential joint projects, including the development of best practice or position statements
• Opportunities for collaboration with colleagues in BACD, BPNA, and Up – The Adult Cerebral Palsy Movement
• Educational initiatives and events the SIG could develop together
• How the SIG should be structured going forward, including whether meeting around four times per year would be useful

This meeting is open to BSPRM members and non-members with an interest in paediatric disability, transition, and lifelong care.
