The session will include a 70-minute lecture, followed by 20 minutes for questions and discussion.

About the lecture

The global burden of neurological disorders continues to increase significantly, with stroke remaining a leading cause of disability and a major driver of healthcare costs worldwide.

The Lancet Neurology Commission on Neurorehabilitation was founded in 2024 by Professor Mayowa Owolabi as Chair and Professor Thomas Platz as Co-Chair. The Commission aims to unify global efforts through situational and gap analyses, global service surveys and economic evaluations.

Its goal is to co-create evidence-based, pragmatic, affordable and scalable solutions for neurorehabilitation, and to support their dissemination and implementation internationally. This work aims to improve functioning and quality of life, reduce economic losses, and guide future developments in neurorehabilitation.

The lecture will share insights from the Commission’s work to date, including perspectives on stroke rehabilitation and emerging conclusions.
