Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness Special Interest Group (PDOC SIG)

Purpose

This group is interested in all aspects of prolonged disorders of consciousness. Its goal is to improve the clinical management of all patients left with a prolonged disorder of consciousness.

Objectives

  • Increase understanding of the disrupted neuroanatomy and neurophysiological processes seen in patients with a prolonged disorder of consciousness
  • Improve all aspects of clinical management from a few days after onset thorough to end-of-life care
    increase awareness of and adherence to the Mental Capacity Act 2005 in the management of these patients
  • Be a forum for discussion of philosophical, ethical and legal issues arising when assessing and managing patients with a prolonged disorder of consciousness
